Perth Amboy to Provide Smoke Detectors for Residents
PERTH AMBOY, NJ— Mayor Wilda Diaz and the Perth Amboy Fire Department are pleased to announce that the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety supplied the City of Perth Amboy with smoke detectors for public distribution. The Perth Amboy Fire Department will be installing the detectors upon request from residents who qualify.
“After observing Fire Prevention Week in October we believe this is the best way to follow-up on assisting our residents in need of such necessities,” said Mayor Wilda Diaz.
A bilingual public service announcement released in October from the National Fire Prevention Association stated the importance of having and maintaining smoke alarms in one’s home. Smoke alarms are to be replaced every 10 years, must have batteries changed on annual basis and tested every month.
“Many are not aware that smoke alarms cut the risk of dying by half in a reported fire. It is our duty not only to fight fires, but to prevent them. We look forward to assisting our community in with resources that are provided to us,” said Fire Chief David Volk.
