Before taking office on July 1, 2008, Kenneth Balut retired with 25 years of distinguished service as a Perth Amboy police officer.
During his law enforcement career, he earned a service commendation for apprehending a gunman in the act of committing armed robbery.
Councilman Balut was president of Policemen's Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 13 for eight years and a state PBA Delegate for six years.
Councilman Balut has earned widespread respect in the community for his leadership and courage as an effective representative to his fellow officers and as an outspoken taxpayer advocate.
Now self-employed in the food service business, Councilman Balut is a member of the Cooks & Caterers Union and is active with the PBA Retirees Local 600.
Councilman Balut's strongest supporter is his daughter, Melissa, an artist who also resides in the city.
