RESOLUTION DECLARING MAY TO BE OLDER AMERICANS' MONTH
RESOLUTION NO. 171-4/13
WHEREAS, The City of Perth Amboy, NJ is a community in which 6,776 citizens age 60 or older make their home: and
WHEREAS, older Adults in Perth Amboy, NJ and throughout the United States are a growing population and evolving needs; and
WHEREAS, older Americans are valuable members of our society who are rich with experience and deserving of our respect; and
WHEREAS, the number of baby boomers reaching traditional retirement age continues to increase, a fact that spotlights the need for increased attention to the needs of older adults; and
WHEREAS, our older citizens of today and tomorrow promise to be among the most active and engaged older adult populations in our Nation’s history;
WHEREAS, the older adults in the City of Perth Amboy should be commended for their role in creating and bolstering the fiber of our community and nation and
WHEREAS, our community can provide that recognition and respect by enriching the quality of life for older Americans by:
- Increasing their opportunities to remain in the communities as active and engaged citizens.
- Providing services that allow seniors to foster and maintain connections within the community.
- Emphasizing the value of elders by publically recognizing their contributions to the diversity, strength and unity of our city.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED MAYOR WILDA DIAZ AND COUNCIL hereby declare May 2013 to be Older Americans Month in the City of Perth Amboy, NJ and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the city Council in testimony thereof and a copy hereof be presented to the City Clerk with the Mayor and Council urging everyone to take time this May to honor our older adults and professionals, family members, and citizens who care for older adults and also urging all citizens to recognize the changing nature of their needs, and provide all older adults with more opportunities to make informed choices about their lives with the hope that our efforts can improve the lives of our older citizens and help pave the way for future generations.
