Councilman Fernando Gonzalez

Councilman Fernando GonzalezCouncilman Fernando Gonzalez, who took office on July 1, 2008, is manager of the Edison office of Weichert Realtors, America's largest privately held property brokerage firm. Councilman Gonzalez served as chairman of the Perth Amboy Housing Authority and as a member of the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development board of directors.

He is a graduate of City College of New York and later served as an instructor from 1972-1978. Councilman Gonzalez afterward earned a Masters degree at Kean University.

As a product of public education, Councilman Gonzalez feels our schools should be fair and equitably funded. He served with distinction on the Perth Amboy Board of Education for three terms.

The Councilman and his wife, Obdulia, a retired educator, are the proud parents of two adult children: Marisol, a special education teacher who works with infants and toddlers in Puerto Rico, and Daniel, an attorney practicing law in Perth Amboy.

Councilman Gonzalez's vision has been expansive, addressing the needs of young urbanites with children, seniors and working families with a keen eye for the future.
