
The Perth Amboy Police Department has established a table of organization of 132 uniformed officers, which are supported by 5 Special Class I part time police officers, 42 volunteer auxiliary police officers, civilian 911 dispatchers, civilian report takers and a complement of non-uniformed civilian support personnel. The department was accredited in June 2009, providing superior service utilizing the best practices in law enforcement.
A Police Director/Chief heads the department. In addition to the usual protective services afforded the community, the department also maintains an investigative unit, a public relations office, and an aggressive juvenile bureau. The department operates a centralized 911 dispatch communication center for all emergency services housed in the new Public Safety Complex. The police department has been successful in reducing crime by an average of 4.7% yearly for the last ten years.
The Police Department is housed in the newly built Public Safety Complex located at 365 New Brunswick Avenue, Perth Amboy, NJ. TheĀ Municipal CourtĀ and the Raritan Bay YMCA are also located in the Complex.
