    2012 Recycling Guidelines

    ITEM

    EXPLANATION

    PREPARATION

    PLACEMENT

    NEWSPAPER & MIXED PAPERS

    Newspapers, inserts, Mail, magazines, envelopes, office paper catalogs, paper, shirt boxes, cereal boxes, (no plastic liners), white or color paper boxes, gift boxes, cardboard, shoe boxes, brown craft, paper bags, construction paper, school paper, computer paper, & phone books

    Place in blue rectangular container (Do not put newspaper in blue box.)

    Note: waxed cardboard, juice boxes, pizza boxes or milk cartons WILL NOT be accepted at any time. Do not put above items in box.

    Put all material in blueplastic recycling container and place at the curb or bring to the Recycling Center

    CARDBOARD

    Heavy brown cardboard used for packing/moving

    Flatten and tie in bundles with twine only, no larger than 18 inches

    Bundled at curb or bring to the Recycling Center.

    COMMINGLED MATERIALS

    The following are commingled materials:  glass, aluminum, steel, and tin cans & listed plastics. These items can be mixed and placed in the SAME round twenty (20) gallon plastic containers for recycling. Please punch holes at the bottom of the container, so that it does not retain rain water or snow..

    GLASS BOTTLES

    Clear, green, & brown bottles

    Rinse & remove caps

    Place all commingled materials in round 20 gallon container at the curb, or bring to Recycling Center.

    ALUMINUM, TIN
    & STEEL CANS

    All beverage & food cans (soda cans, soup cans, etc.)

    Rinse & remove caps

    Place all commingled materials in round 20 gallon container at the curb, or bring to Recycling Center.

    PLASTICS

    Laundry containers, soda plastic bottles, and plastic containers labeled with recycling symbol

    Rinse & remove caps

    Place all commingled materials in round 20 gallon container at the curb, or bring to Recycling Center.

    OTHER GLASS, PLASTIC AND METAL ITEMS

    Curtain rods, hangers, broken glass and  window panes

    These items are not recyclable. Do not place them in with your commingled material recycling containers. Place them in the garbage.

    OTHER RECYCLABLE AND NON-RECYCLABLE ITEMS

    TEXTILES

    Clothing, curtains, sheets, shoes, handbags and any fabric at least 1 square foot

    BATTERIES

    Cars and/or small appliances batteries. Regular appliance batteries can be placed in garbage.

    MOTOR OIL

    Used motor oil which has not been contaminated with water

    ELECTRONICS

    Computers, Televisions, DVD players, etc.

    TREE REMAINS

     

     

    Branches and tree trucks

     

    Branches: Cut to 5 in. wide and 4 ft. long

    Tree Trunks: Cut two (2) ft. long

    Drop-off to DPW facility is free of charge or schedule a bulk pick-up for a $20 fee.**

    BULK RUBBISH

    Furniture, rugs, mattresses, wood pieces, etc.

    No construction materials accepted at any time.

    Wood maximum length 4 feet.

    WHITE GOODS

    Refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, etc.

    No Preparation Needed

    Drop-off to DPW facility is free of charge or schedule picked-up appt., free of charge.*

    MASONRY & VEHICLE/ CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

    Concrete, asphalt, bricks, sheetrock, pavers, shingles, dirt, automobile parts, etc.

    These materials are not recyclable and not accepted at our public works facility.

    OTHER

    Tires, paint, latex & oil based paint cans, aerosol cans, fluorescent lights, light bulbs, drain cleaners, propane tanks, anti-freeze and motor oil containers.

    These items are recyclable, but they are not accepted at our public works facility.

    *Recycling Center Hours of Operation and Drop-off: Monday- Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    **Schedule a Bulk Pick-up or Other Pick-up Appt.:Monday morning only at 7:30 a.m. (must come in person, not by phone).

    Pick-up appointments are allowed twice per year, per residential unit. Appointments only available during the months of January 23, 2012 - September 2012.
