ATTENTION RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS
NEW POLICY AND CHANGES EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2010
Garbage, Rubbish and Refuse:
1. Each household is limited to 2 pick-up appointments per year. Each collection is limited to 4 household items. The scheduled pick-up is $20.00 and is payable by check or money order to the City of Perth Amboy.
2. Garbage should not be out at the curb until sunset or by 5 p.m. the day before your schedule collection day. Containers must be removed from curb by 8 p.m. on the same day. Household garbage should be placed in a .3 millimeter plastic bag inside of a plastic container no larger than 32 gallons with lid, not to exceed 50 lbs nor 3 containers per household.
3. Bulk items and white goods may be picked-up by appointment only during the months of January - September. They may also be dropped-off free of charge year round from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please call the Perth Amboy Public Works Department to arrange an appointment.
Rubbish/Bulk items consist of: Furniture, rugs, pieces of wood no longer than 4 feet and tied, etc.
Metal/White Goods consist of: Refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, etc.
4. Tires and paint are NOT accepted at Public Works. They may be dropped-off at the Middlesex County drop-off facility (Woodbridge Public Works Yard) located on 225 E. Smith Street in Keasbey, NJ. They may be reached at 732-738-1311.
Recycling: Remember, Recycling is Mandatory!!
1. Do NOT place garbage in the blue recyclable containers. Blue containers are for recyclables only.
2. Do NOT rake leaves into the roadway.
3. Do NOT place recyclables in your garbage: Garbage cans will be randomly inspected for recyclable material, if recyclables are found in your garbage, it will be tagged with a notice and left at curb until all recyclables (i.e. bottles, cans, plastics, cardboard, etc.) are removed. Your re-bagged garbage will be collected on the next regular scheduled collection day.
4. Masonry such as: concrete, asphalt, bricks, sheetrock, pavers, shingles, dirt, etc. are NOT accepted at the transfer station and will not be picked -up. You may contact Public Works for a list of approved vendors.
5. All Commercial establishments which prepare food for consumption are required to recycle all used cooking oil. The City will NOT collect it at curbside or accept it at Public Works. Establishments may obtain a list of approved recyclers from the Recycling Office.
REMINDERS
The Department of Public Works offers residents the option of having household metal/white goods, rubbish/bulk items and/or debris either picked-up or dropped-off at the transfer station by appointment. Appointments may be made in person or by phone on Monday mornings at 7:30 a.m. through the months of January - September. Appointment for rubbish/bulk item drop-offs can be made on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Metal can be picked-up by appointment year round. This department experiences a high call volume, if the line is busy, please attempt to call again. In the event of inclement weather, please call our office the day before your schedule pick-up.
Drop-off by Appointment: Proof of residency is required. Accepted documents are: driver’s license, water bill, tax bill, etc. You will be stopped at the gate to present your proof of residency before entering the station to drop-off debris or rubbish/bulk items. No commercial vehicles are allowed to enter.
Regular Household garbage is collected twice weekly as follows:
North Side: Monday and Thursday; South Side: Tuesday and Friday.
